Soulbound: Online Abilities Tier List
Abilities define your combat role in Soulbound: Online more than any single armor piece. You equip three actives tied to weapon types and skill lines — Knowledge, Technology, Marksmanship, and Dexterity. This tier list ranks abilities for Early Access meta across solo farming, group Spectra, and dungeon extraction, with permanent Fritz Lab upgrades and in-run relic pools factored in.
S-Tier Abilities — Meta Defining
Pyrosphere sits at the top for raw DPS. Orbiting fireballs reward movement, scale with enemy density, and spike in value at permanent level 4 burn stacks for Spectra. Pair with Fortify for the dominant solo combo documented on the Pyrosphere DPS build page. In-run relics like Firing Squad and Stoke the Flames multiply clear speed further.
Fortify is S-tier for every role, not only tanks. Shield auras let Pyrosphere players stay close, healers stabilize parties during burst, and tanks block longer with Bulwark synergy. Unlockable relic paths that stack Fortify shields change many boss fights when timed correctly.
Gleam Twins is S-tier for safe ranged damage and hybrid healer-DPS. SMG arcs clear trash from distance with strong fire rate upgrades — ideal for the support healer build and beginner-friendly farming. It lacks Pyrosphere burst but wins on consistency.
Healing Pulse is S-tier for group content and solo sustain loops. Scales with Knowledge, keeps parties alive in Spectra, and pairs with Gleam Twins as the forgiving alternative to aggressive Pyrosphere play. Mandatory pick for dedicated healers.
A-Tier Abilities — Strong Specialists
Chain Lightning excels at solo trash farming and hybrid healer paths that need AoE without melee risk. Obtained from Granny Smith in the Virelda quest line — see Virelda map for progression context.
Bomb and Chakram rank high for Dexterity builds that stack crit or dodge hybrid stats. Bomb area relics increase explosion radius dramatically inside dungeons. Less Spectra priority than Pyrosphere but excellent mid-game.
Black-hole Bomb pulls enemies for controlled farming and group add stacking. Technology unlock from Zig in Everdune — pairs with Everdune and Farpoint beacon content.
Ice Cube provides knockback and freeze control for players learning mechanics. Situational in Spectra but valuable in extraction runs where space matters.
- S-Tier: Pyrosphere, Fortify, Gleam Twins, Healing Pulse
- A-Tier: Chain Lightning, Bomb, Chakram, Black-hole Bomb, Ice Cube
- B-Tier: Kusarigama, Drone — strong with investment, weaker default Spectra value
- C-Tier: Niche or quest-gated abilities until geared — evaluate after Fritz Lab upgrades
Skill Scaling and Permanent Upgrades
Every ability scales with its associated skill. Technology strengthens Fortify shields and several utility gadgets. Knowledge amplifies Healing Pulse and magical effects. Marksmanship drives Gleam Twins and ranged scaling. Dexterity powers Bomb, Chakram, and Kusarigama lines.
Permanent upgrades at Fritz Lab in Arcadia unlock stronger dungeon relic options — a level 5 Pyrosphere damage tier is vastly stronger than base tutorial values. Prioritize upgrading S-tier abilities you actually run before spreading gold across unused slots.
Use the Ability Configurator from Hector after Foundational Error to stop tutorial randomization. Without it, tier rankings are meaningless because your loadout shifts every run.

Ability Relics Inside Dungeons
Each ability has eight relics — four default and four unlockable with Ability Power Cores and gold. Dungeon relic buffs last one run; Fritz Lab upgrades are permanent. S-tier abilities also have S-tier relic picks: Pyrosphere sphere count, Fortify shield stacking, Gleam Twins fire rate, Healing Pulse pulse count.
Tank players should read Bulwark and Fortify sections on the relics tier list. DPS players chase Pyrosphere Firing Squad and damage percent relics. Healers prioritize Healing Pulse radius and cooldown relics.
Plan relic paths with the build planner before spending cores — respec gold adds up quickly in Early Access.
Abilities alone do not carry Spectra — pair S-tier actives with weapons from the weapons tier list and rings like Midnight Ring from the rings tier list.
